Welcome to The Rabbits!
This term our topic is ‘The Greatest Show’- celebrating all things dramatic, theatrical and magical!
On Tuesday 26th February we had a fantastic Inspiration Day. Kevin the Clown ran an hour long circus skills workshop, before giving the children (and adults!) an entertaining show! The Rabbits Class also made their new Topic Book covers- featuring circus silhouettes- and even made trapeze figures to hang from our ceiling!
In the different subjects we will be:
As mentioned at parents evening, the Rabbits are working hard on their phonics to help their reading and writing. Continuing to hear your child read during the week and ensuring they bring their reading book to school is incredibly important to their progress. In addition, any phonics practise with resources that are sent home will further your child’s progress and give them the best foundations for their reading and writing to develop.
Spelling tests will continue to take place every Friday. As a school we have changed the way in which we teach phonics through a more linguistics approach.(Sounds-Write) In line with this, we shall be teaching the children different ways of spelling the same sound in the same lesson, for example the /ae/ sound could be be spelt in many different ways ay, ai, a, ei, ey, and a-e. Therefore the spelling test words will now reflect this.
Our homework grid this term features some very practical ideas for exploring materials. I was so proud of my Rabbits for their excellent Florence Nightingale homework, the imagination for all their models and research was brilliant! We presented the homework in an ‘art gallery’ with the Badgers class on the last day of term, and I can’t wait to see the next lot of homework this term!
On Monday 18th March when we begin our learning about money we shall be having a visitor from Natwest Bank. They will be talking to the children about the importance of money, saving and how to spend money wisely.
As always, I am very excited for the term ahead- to see the great learning your children achieve and all of their accomplishments and excitement along the way. Thank you for your support and continued enthusiasm for their education!
Keep checking back to see all the fantastic things we get up to in the photographs below!
