Welcome to Year 1!
We hope you have had a lovely Christmas and New Year break and are looking forward to another action-packed half term. We start this half-term with our topic ‘Can one person make a difference?’ Learning all about the life and influence of the very important nurse, Florence Nightingale. In English we will be writing our own biography of Florence Nightingale, after exploring the life of the athlete Florence Joyner. In Mathematics we will be looking at subtraction using various methods and then moving on to learning about 2D and 3D shapes. In Science we will be looking at every day materials, how they are suited for their use and the importance of hygiene. Alongside this, we will be taking part in Forest School – supporting creativity, problem-solving and giving hands-on experiences in the natural environment. Every Thursday the children will visit the library to choose a book to read for pleasure. Reading at home is incredibly important for your child’s progress, so please continue to hear your child read at home. Please make sure their book is in school every day. Their book will be changed every Monday and Thursday. We will be having PE every Thursday and Friday so please could your child come to school dressed in their indoor PE kit. This consists of black shorts or leggings, a white t-shirt and trainers or plimsolls. Hair should be tied back and earrings can be taken out or covered with school tape. Come back soon to see what we have been learning #communication #curiousity #positivity |
