Welcome back to Rabbits, Autumn term 2!
I would like to start with saying a huge thank-you for a wonderful first half term! You have made me extremely proud with how well you have all settled back into school. I hope you have had a relaxing break and are ready to come back to our second half term in Rabbits.
We will be coming back to school to learn about an exciting topic called, ‘What’s life like down under?’. In this topic we will be learning about the climate of Australia and comparing it to ours. We will also be learning about the animals in Australia now that we have a good knowledge of animals from our previous topic. We will start our topic off with an inspiration day of making junk model Australian animals with a special visitor over zoom. This will take place on Tuesday 27th October.
In English, we will be looking at the book, ‘Wombat Goes Walkabout’ by Michael Morpurgo. Throughout their English lessons the children will write their own story based on the book. We will be focusing on writing sentences and building up our descriptive vocabulary. The children have already made a fantastic start to their sentence writing towards the end of their first half term.
We will continue to provide many reading opportunities for the children. We will still have an afternoon a week focused on reading where the children will be able to read one to one to an adult as well as working in guided reading groups supported by an adult and engaging in various independent reading activities. A variety of books will also be read to the whole class daily. The children have been engaging well with their class story books this first half term. Phonics will be taught every day and we will be following the phonics scheme, ‘Sounds Write’.
Mathematics will primarily focus on arithmetic skills as well as looking at place value too. We will continue to have a free flow approach to their maths learning. The children enjoy choosing the practical maths activities such as counting with objects, cubes and Numicon. We will start to move on from adding and subtracting numbers within 10 to numbers within 20.
PE will take place on Thursday afternoons. Children will need to come to school in their outdoor P.E kit.
Keep checking our page to see photos of all the fun we will be having with our learning back at school!
