Welcome to Rabbits!
Class Teacher: Mr Barrass
Welcome to the Rabbits Class!
Year 1 is a year full of learning and fun, we can’t wait to get started! We shall begin our year with a new topic called- What’s the story? This topic will have a focus on toys, their history and the materials they are made from. For our Inspiration Day Mrs Rickaby brought in her own vintage toy collection, the children loved the wind-up tin toys!
Our learning in this topic will include:
Materials and their properties
Toys in the past
Creation- who made the world?
Writing about the classic book ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’.
Writing, drawing and making number bonds to 10.
Addition and subtraction.
The Rabbits class will have PE on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please make sure their indoor and outdoor kit is in school at all times. Please can hair be tied up and if possible earrings removed on these days.
Reading, spelling and homework
The children will be heard at least once a week. They will be heard reading at least twice more during independent guided reading, which will start as the term progresses. Currently we are working on whole class guided reading. The children are expected to bring in their reading book every day and read at home at least three times a week. Please feel free to comment about how they get on in their reading diary.
Spellings will be sent out every Friday, ready for a test on the following Friday.
Topic homework will continue to be set half termly with activities all relating to our topic.
I’m so excited to see all the amazing learning we achieve in this first half-term!
Keep checking back to see all the fantastic things we get up to in the photographs below!
