Welcome to Moles class!
After a wonderful Christmas break, we are ready to get stuck in to our new topic ‘Veni, Vidi, Vici- Did they?’ We will be learning all about the Romans and looking at how they changed Britain. We will kick start this topic with an exciting Inspiration Day where we will be travelling back in time and meeting the ‘Roman Man’. We will be learning about Roman invasions, Boudicca’s rebellion, Bathhouses, Roman roads and even Roman Gods and Goddesses! We will also be creating our very own Roman mosaics and Roman shields- we are so excited! In English, we will be reading ‘The Journal of Iliona’ by Richard Platt which links closely to our topic. We will continue to focus on our inference, deduction and vocabulary skills in our English lessons. We will be using the FANTASTICS, GRAMMARTASTICS AND BOOMTASTICS from the Write Stuff in our writing to make improvements and to make our work stand out! In addition to this, we will continue to have a big focus on reading and all children will have an opportunity to read with an adult in the class. Each week there will be a reading afternoon dedicated to reading and comprehension skills. Please ensure that your child has a reading book with them each day. We will continue to teach spellings using the ‘Sounds Write’ scheme which focuses on phonics and sounds. In mathematics, we will be focusing on multiplication, division, fractions and using the appropriate methods to help us to solve problems. We will continue to consolidate our times tables knowledge but please ensure that your child gets lots of practise at home as this will really support their learning. Remember that your child is also able to log on to TTRockstars at home! PE sessions will continue be on Wednesdays and Fridays this term. Please make sure your child comes to school wearing their correct PE kit. Spellings will be given out each Friday ready for a test on the following Friday. Keep checking back on our page to look at all of the amazing things that we are getting up to! #creativity #teamwork #questioning |
