Welcome to Foxes!
Class Teacher: Mrs Carpenter / Mrs Pope
Welcome to Foxes - we have really missed you all.
I hope everyone had a safe and fantastic summer break, and was able to do and learn some new and exciting things...
We are beginning this new term by taking an exploration of South America, in particular the Amazon rainforest in our new topic of 'How can we survive?'. We will be looking at rainforests and how deforestation can affect us as well as thinking about how animals adapt for survival. All this will help us think about our own survival and the skills needed both emotionally and physically.
In English, we will be looking at the book ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell and along with 'The Write Stuff' way of teaching we will complete some amazing writing and have a good look at inference, deduction and vocabulary skills. In addition, we will be spending part of our week on reading activities and reading for pleasure – I will be reading ‘Crater Lake’ by Jennifer Killick out loud to the class, just for them to enjoy. Please make sure that your child brings a reading book to school every day.
Mathematics will primarily focus on number, place value and the 4 operations. This will provide a fantastic foundation of maths understanding on which to build upon. Of course, we will be continuing times table practise within school and will be tested each week, but additional practise at home is expected as this will be a fantastic help to their overall maths learning.
PE will take place on Wednesday afternoons. Please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kit.
Spellings will be handed out on a Friday and tested the following Friday.
Keep checking back to see all the fantastic things we are doing, in the photographs below.
