Welcome to Foxes!
Class Teacher: Mrs Carpenter / Mrs Pope
Welcome to Foxes - I hope you have had a great half term break.
We are beginning Autumn 2 by taking a step back in time to the Ancient Mayans and asking the question of 'Can money grow on trees?'. We will be looking at what made the Mayans great and what legacy did they leave behind. Traditional tales and beliefs will be explored, along with the making of tissue paper Mayan masks. As the Mayans used cacao beans for trading, we will be designing, making and evaluating our own individual chocolate recipes and deciding which one would be the most valuable.
In English, we will continue to read the book ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell and along with 'The Write Stuff' way of teaching we will complete some amazing descriptions, instructions and many more. We will also take a good look at inference, deduction and vocabulary skills. In addition, we will be spending part of our week on reading activities and reading for pleasure – we have already read ‘Crater Lake’ by Jennifer Killick, 'Malamander' by Thomas Taylor and have nearly finished 'Troofriend' by Kirsty Applebaum. Next up will be 'Wonderscape' by Jennifer Bell and then a Christmas related story. Please make sure that your child brings a reading book to school every day.
Mathematics will primarily focus on the 4 operations, including fractions, decimals and percentages and we will begin honing our arithmetic skills. Of course, we will continue to practise our times table within school and will be tested each week, but additional practise at home is expected, as this will be a fantastic help to their overall maths learning.
Don't forget to use TTRockstars to help support this.
PE will take place on Wednesday afternoons. Please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kit.
Spellings will be handed out on a Friday and tested the following Friday.
Keep checking back to see all the fantastic things we are doing, in the photographs below.
